Early Years
Early activities included working with owners in the Belmont-Locust-Leyfred area to improve streetscapes with landscape upgrades and improvements to Johnny Appleseed Park which were accomplished with help from neighbors, inmates from the Hampden County House of Correction and the Springfield Parks Department.
Our first renovation project was a boarded up single family house at 340 Dickinson Street which, once completed, would blend in with neighboring properties, a rehabilitation strategy which continues to guide CCS’s renovation efforts.
Several well-attended landlord training sessions were conducted by Attilio Cardaropoli of the Rental Housing Association of Greater Springfield and Eileen Wilkinson from HAP Housing.
